Knight in Shining Armor
I know, I know, the Amazing Race was 4 days ago now but I have been dying to write about it and lost track of precious time. I feel like this blog should be a "Fast Forward". Just skip the whole episode and go right to the final task. She wasn't even done putting on the armor when I first starting chuckling. The comedy of watching Charla lead the horse to the Castle gate will be the high water mark of the season for me. All it took was that little boot scraping the ground and I was rolling. Bad enough she fell once but the unexpected second time left we pausing my TIVO. It was high comedy listening to Mirna direct her while she is having a yard sale every 5 feet!!! I'm chuckling as I write this.
It was a great episode for a lot of other reasons too. I like the Intersection idea a lot. It can quickly drop a team from the front of the pack to the back. It's a good concept and a wake up call for the blondes who thought they had it in the bag. Nothing like being behind and being paired up with the two people you hate the most. Eric had a great line this week too with "Ladies and Gentleman, Miss California". I loved it. I'm not a huge fan of his though for obvious reasons. I wish he would treat Danielle with a little more respect even though sometimes when she starts with the theatrics I want to change the channel.
I found myself wishing this week hadn't been the Guidos more then I thought I would. I actually didn't mind them as much this time around. Of course I can't finish without commenting on my first place team Danny and Oswald. The previews make me a little nervous but they seem so good under pressure I like my odds. Until next time...................
"I Have to Sleep in an Airport Again"?
Alas, Teri and Ian get bumped off the Amazing race after their harrowing experience stuck in the airport for two days. I titled this article accordingly, you'd follow if you watched. I mean I can imagine they all get sick of not having a nice bed and a hot shower but Teri could not move past the idea to sleep in the airport, and much as I don't always love Ian he was right. Quit whining and pull up a piece of rug sweetheart. You're on the Amazing Race, if you want to win you're going to have to deal with not sleeping in a hotel every leg of the race. In the end I guess it never would have mattered anyway. Our favorite villains(Team Guido)took care of Teri and Ian and put an end to Teri's misery. Poor woman never seems happy.
As for the rest of the episode, I liken Charla and Mirna to the sound of my Daughter grinding her teeth. A sound I might add that I am not overly fond of. Excessively annoying wouldn't begin to sum up how badly they irritate me and all the other people I know who watch the show. Good job gals, you're in first again. You're not going to win and from what the previews show, one of you may not make it out alive next week. (Not going to lie, my Husband and I rewound the previews several times to watch her take a face plant in next week's episode).
At this point I am routing for Donny and Oswald(and not just to win the CEO's pool) or Unchenna and Joyce. If Charla and Mirna pull out the unlikely victory I'll be sure to shut off the TV before they make it to the mat :-)
Rat Race
I have to admit as I write this that I missed most of the Amazing Race this week. The past month has been a continuation of stomach bugs, ear infections, RSV, bronchiolitis and general unhappiness from the 8 month old head of household. Not even into the first 15 minutes she awoke with ear infection #2 in two weeks so I would be lying if I said I knew too much about this week.
I do know this though, no more Rob and Amber much to the chagrin of the other teams. Now they have to waste time trying to win instead of worrying about where the Survivor duo is at any given moment. From what I did see I am lost as to why the Guidos were so upset with Eric and Double D. Not that serious guys. There's got to be more important things to worry about like whether you can embroider your belts with the team logo too.
I missed the rats which I am a little disspointed with because it looked like a challenging roadblock but I tuned back in when teams were checking in and noticed Uchenna and Joyce sneak into last in the non-elimination week. Anyone remember the Season after they won that they changed the roadblock rule so each team member could only do so many tasks? That was thanks to Joyce, does she do anything but tell Unchenna to do the road blocks? I like them but give the man a break!
Until next time, let's hope ear infection #3 doesn't strike!
Beauty without the Brains
This week's Amazing Race: All Stars had me chuckling at the misfortune of a seasoned team who just
dropped their brains at the Roadblock. This is the show's 8th or 9th Season running and anyone watching(let alone running the race) knows EVERY episode has a Roadblock and a Detour. It's not rocket science, it happens every leg of the Race. Why Dustin and Candace thought they would be looking for a clue on a white water rafting adventure is beyond me. This is level 3 and 4 rapids and you thought what? You were going to pull over and retrieve a clue? Lucky for them it didn't have any bearing on what place they finished but it was a definite blond moment.
The racers also need to spend less time worrying about where Rob and Amber are and just run their own race. They're in first place in case you're looking for them. Since I drew Oswald and Danny in the CEO's pool I am pulling hard for them and although I don't think they'll win it does add a new element of suspense for me while I am watching. I felt bad for Kentucky but who didn't see it coming? Very nice people who certainly deserve it but there's just no way.
Next week's previews look good and my prediction is that Charla and Mirna self implode within two weeks. Mirna wants to pick a fight with anyone she sees. I actually don't mind the Guidos this time around but I have to say that as much as I don't like them my money right now would have to be on Rob and Amber. Stay tuned.....................
An "All Star" Race Around the World
There are few shows that I have to watch live every week. Most things I take my time with on TIVO and get
to them on nights when TV is particularly slow. Grey's Anatomy and The Amazing Race are really the only two shows I have to watch live on the nights they air. For those of you sick of reality television I would ask you to give Amazing Race a try on February 18. If you are already a huge fan like me then the build up to the all star race is no different then when Survivor launched their version.
True to form, the race will change some rules and give us some slight modifications, but the overall goal is the same, be the first team to get to the mat. And speaking of teams, we have some classics returning this season. Of most notority is Boston Rob and his million dollar wife Amber. A couple who stands to give anyone on the Real World a run for their money with most reality television show appearances. I mean these people make a living out of reality television. Which would be fine if they were easy to root for but Rob makes himself the impossible villain and Amber is just along for the ride. Not a fan, hope they get knocked out early, doubtful they will. They ought to win considering this is how they spend the majority of their time.
Uchenna and Joyce are also back and up there with my all time favorite teams. We all remember when Joyce cut off all her hair in India to get the Fast Forward. They also beat out Rob and Amber (and even if it was rigged I could
care less) which easily makes them a top team in my book. Another favorite, David and Mary. The coalminer and his wife are the people you want to see win these shows. They deserve the money more then most people on that show and they could use it more then most of them too.
Finally, joining Rob and Amber on the "B" list are the "Guidos". Can't imagine they are any less obnoxious then when we first saw them and best case scenario we are saying adios in the first couple weeks. Ditto to the Beauty Pageant queens, and not because they are pretty, because they love themselves. I can't take another minute of how great they are and how they "should" have gotten first.
So, tune in if you aren't already a fan. Either way, check back in to see how the "all star" season unfolds.
